How to Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day

World Down Syndrome Day is a day to celebrate people with Down syndrome! There are so many ways to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day, it can get a bit overwhelming. Here are a few suggestions we have to help guide you on your celebration!

Educate Someone about Down syndrome

One of the best ways to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day is to educate at least one person about Down syndrome! The most important thing to inform someone is that when people with Down syndrome are treated like people without any disabilities would be by their societies, families, education systems, medical care providers, and governments, they can graduate from high school, graduate from college, find careers, start businesses, get married, and more. If you’re like us, and you like to educate people through social media too, here are some posts you can use!

Participate in the Elskað Project

The Elskað Project was started by our ambassador, Hailey Alexander, in response to the 100% abortion rate of babies with Down syndrome after a prenatal diagnosis in Iceland. In May, Hailey is going to visit Iceland to establish a relationship with the people there. The goal of the project is to eventually establish a pregnancy and resource center for people who learn that their baby has Down syndrome before they are born or after they are born.

When Hailey visits Iceland in May, she would like to have something to give to the people of Iceland that is both useful and impactful. That is why she has decided on cork coasters, decorated by people with Down syndrome. If you would like to help, all you need are some cork coasters, some paint, and a camera. Donate to the Feuerstein Institute

The Feuerstein Institute was started by Professor Reuven Feuerstein after he developed a method of teaching that can teach anyone to learn, regardless of their strengths or disabilities. Most schools label people with disabilities as unintelligent and incapable of learning, and group them off into a small room all together. Professor Feuerstein’s method proves that this is wrong, and that when included in the regular classroom, and taught in the way that target’s their way of learning, people with Down syndrome can learn and do anything! We hope to push for the incorporation of the Feuerstein Method in all schools across the world some day. Click on the button below to donate to the Feuerstein Institute!

Donate to Reece’s Rainbow

Reece’s Rainbow is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit that works to find families for orphans with Down syndrome and other disabilities in less developed nations, and fund those adoptions. When these children are not adopted, they age out of the system, and are sent to institutions with less than humane conditions. Click on the button below to donate to Reece’s Rainbow!

Donate to Disability Rights International

Disability Rights International is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit organization that works to eliminate the inhumane conditions that people with disabilities live in, specifically orphans with disabilities in less developed nations. They advocate, change laws, do legal work, and get people with disabilities out of the conditions they live in. Click on the button below to donate to Disability Rights International!
